on farms in Indiana such as cattle, hogs and sheep there are alternative
types of livestock that perhaps can be more profitable and not be based on
a commodity market as much. Examples of alternative livestock are:
-
Goats (meat, milk, cheese, soap)
-
Llamas and alpacas
-
Free-range livestock
-
Rabbit
-
Bison, elk and deer
-
Aquaculture (fish, shrimp, etc.)
-
Bait (Minnows, worms, etc.)
-
Canned, dried, smoked or other preserved
meat
-
Guide service with horses and dogs for
hunting, fishing, backpacking
-
Horse boarding
-
Pasture fed – chickens, turkeys, cattle,
hogs,
-
Pet stores – selling animals raised on the
farm
-

etc.
